****
Slowly walking to the car, I looked around for Carter. This school isn't the smallest so I'm not sure how I'm going to find him. Before I can open the door to the car, I hear someone say "Hey, Lily!"
I turn to see a guy walking towards me who isn't Carter, but he looks familiar. When he gets closer I politely say "Hi."
This guy was cute. He had curly brown hair, and was wearing a blue button down shirt with a red bow tie. He had brown eyes behind his wide rimmed black glasses. I always wanted a pair like them even though my eyesight is fine. My mother always said they looked nerdy and stupid. I personally loved them.
Mr.glasses smiled and said "You probably don't remember me. I'm Daniel. We have Trig, physics, and Human Geography together. We also went to the same school before high school.
Ohhhh. Daniel! "Yeah. I remember you now. You glued Mrs.Nolan's butt to her chair!" I said while giggling at the memory. This guy was like my hero in fifth grade.
Daniel stuffed his hands in his jean pockets and chuckled. "Yeah. My pranking days are kinda over."
"That's to bad." That's when I noticed that Carter was standing a few feet away, his head down, staring at the ground.
"Hey Carter." I said to him. He lifted his head up slightly to nod, but kept his eyes on the ground.
"Hey." he murmured.
Daniel turned in Carter's direction saying a polite "Hey" but Carter didn't respond to his greeting. Daniel turned back to me, saying "Well, its good to have you back."
I give a small smile. "Thanks."
"See ya." He called as he turned and walked away.
"Later" I called.
I focused my attention on Carter. "Dude. Rude much."
"Sorry. Wasn't trying to be." He mumbled.
Oh, I see. I stepped up to him and grabbed his wrists, swaying his arms. "Carter, I thought you'd be done with being shy-ness by now." I said softly. Carter is an awesome person but, people wouldn't know because of how shy he is.
"I wasn't being shy." He said finally looking into my eyes and sounding defensive.
I raised an eyebrow. "Ugh" he groaned frustratedly. "Lil, I don't know whats wrong with me."
"It's cool. I'm here. We can make you UN-shy in no time." He smiled at me.
"So...we are having a talk." I said.
"Yeah, I guess so."
"Do you have a car or something?"
"No. Actually I walk." He said.
"Perfect. Get in loser we're going shopping." I said while gesturing to my Gran's car.
"Why are we go shopping?"
Sigh. "We're not actually going shopping. It's a line from Mean Girls."
In the corner of my eye I seen him grin while shaking his head and mouthing an 'Ooooookaaaay.'+

We get out of the car and walk inside. It looks exactly the same. Nice to know some things haven't changed.
I walked up to the women at the cash register. "A vanilla... and pistachio. Both in a waffle cone, two scoops each." I paid and watched as she scooped the delicious-ness into the cone. When she hands us our ice cream we go to the stools in front of the big window.
"You remember." Is all he says. He was staring at his ice cream.
Rolling my eyes I say, "Of course I do. Though I still don't understand you. I mean, pistachio is disgusting. My ice creams better." Not caring that I sound like a little kid, taking a lick of my ice cream.
"For your information, pistachio is the best flavor of ice cream ever. And vanilla? That's about as boring as you can get!"
I made an overly dramatic gasp. "How dare you! Vanilla is a classic!"
Carter chuckled and I giggled. What follows is silence.
He stares at the cone in his hand. He signed and I wait.
"Okay...I don't really know what exactly happened. I guess it started with Adam. He just changed immediately after we got into high school. You know he's always been the...uh, flirt. So he started using girls, became a jerk. None of us could stand him, the way he was or the way he acted in general. He turned into Kyle, which is kind of how their friendship was born. "Adam is really like that?" I say in disbelief.
He nodded."Yeah. I don't know what happened to him."
"Okay. What happened between Ian and David? They are so tense around each other."
"They got torn apart by a girl."
I raised my eyebrows.+
"Really?"
"Yeah. Ian went with this girl, her name is Rachel. Sophomore year was when they started dating. Then mid-year she started going out with David. Everyone knows that Rachel left Ian for David. Rumor is that they were cheating behind Ian's back but I don't think that rumors never been confirmed. David and Rachel are still together till this day. I guess he's really in love with her but Ian was hurt by it, you know. When he's with his jock friends he acts like he isn't affected by it but I see when he sees them together, it him hurt."
"Of course he is! Ian is a sensitive person!"
"Yeah. He is." Carter said knowingly.
"So I don't get something." I stated.
"What?"
"What happened with you? Why did you stop talking to David and Ian?"
His eyes have not met mine since this whole conversation began. He just stared at his melting ice cream.
"Well, um, yeah... you see, they... I wasn't-" He signed.
"They became popular in their own way, which is probably because...they're capable of socializing with people. I mean, Ian is star athlete, David is the one in every single club possible, Adam is the school player, and I'm just...invisible." This whole mini speech came out in sad tone. I knew what I had to do.
I got up from the stool to throw away my ice cream which I didn't really want to finish. the I walked back to Carter who was staring at the floor with a frown on his face. I stand in front waiting for him to look at me. When he finally does, I raise my hand and slap him across the face, realizing that's the second time I slapped someone today. This slap wasn't near as hard as the one I gave kyle so my hand didn't really sting.
Carter put his hand to his cheek and stared at me with wide eyes, in disbelief.
"You just slapped me!"
"I get that your sad because the fab-freaking-five is no more, but don't feel sorry for yourself because you're not popular. That's some petty ass shit, and by the way, your own fault. You have to stop being so damn shy and live a little.
He looked me straight in the eye. "I'm not shy." There's an edge to his voice, but the statement was a murmur.
"Why don't you say that louder." I challenged.
I stared into his pretty hazel eyes. With some hesitation, Carter said "I'm not shy." He was a little louder
"What? I can't hear you."
"I'm not shy." He was louder.
"What?"
"I'm not shy." This time, he was loud enough for people in the little parlor to glance at us.
"Your not what now?"
"I'm not SHY!" Carter shouts.
I smiled at him. His eyes widen when he realizes he shouted. The lady at the cash register said, "Hey, you guys keep it down or I'll have to ask you to leave."
I nodded and said "That's fine. We were on our way out. C'mon Carter, I'll take you home."
He smiled and shook his head.
******
After dropping Carter at his house I crash on my bed to take a long nap. I'm just stating to fall asleep when my phone starts ringing. I look at the screen. It's my mom.+
Well...shit.
